The Faculty of Language and Social Science is a new addition to the University this year, which is being headed by Mr. Tolera Negassa.
The faculty has approximately 45 instructors, 15 of whom are new to the University and the profession itself. There are three departments working under this faculty: English, Civics/Ethical Education, and Educational Psychology. Currently, there are seventy male students and one hundred twenty female students enrolled. Since this is a new faculty with new staff members, they are beginning the process of creating a strategic plan, with goals of collaborating with other Faculties on campus. One of the plans set for next year is to create an Institute for Language and Culture, which will house an Afan Oromo Studies course.
As head of this faculty, Tolera Negassa advises students to heed the Academic Calendar and the Academic Regulations of the University. He also expresses the need for students to form strong relationships with instructors. To encourage this, students will have advisors to counsel and guide them in their academics.
“I expect positive thinking and creativity from the students,” says Tolera, and the University is expecting great things from this new Faculty.
